A ONG Zero Water Day Partnership, a Universidade da Pensilvânia e a Universidade Federal Fluminense realizaram uma série de eventos online paralelos à Conferência Climática COP 29, em Baku, Azerbaijão, no dia 18 de novembro de 2024.
Organizado sob o título “Promovendo saúde e educação para pessoas, planeta, paz e prosperidade”, o foco dos eventos é na EDUCAÇÃO como fio condutor que articula as etapas do programa. O objetivo é revisitar o status da educação através dos 17 Objetivos de Desenvolvimento Sustentável (ODS) propostos pela Organização das Nações Unidas (ONU), com ênfase nos ODS 3 e 4.
O programa se divide para promover a educação para a cidadania global no desenvolvimento sustentável em escolas, demonstrando que a educação e o treinamento profissional devem fomentar um pensamento crítico centrado no planeta que promova equidade em saúde. Julian Fisher, presidente da Zero Water Day Partnership destaca que “o Brasil está liderando um chamado para educação para o desenvolvimento sustentável e cidadania global com ações coletadas em 5 áreas de importância crítica para a humanidade e o planeta; pessoas, planeta, prosperidade, paz e parceria”.
As mudanças climáticas, poluição e perda de biodiversidade será discutida por especialistas globais, assim como os impactos no setor de saúde bucal. Guiada pelos Objetivos de Desenvolvimento Sustentável da ONU e pelo Plano de Ação Global de Saúde Oral da OMS 2023-2030, a conferência enfatiza uma abordagem transdisciplinar na educação e prática odontológica.
Paulo Henrique Fraccaro (Superintendente) e Regiane Marton (Diretora e Responsável pelo Setor da Odontologia) na ABIMO (Associação Brasileira da Indústria de Dispositivos Médicos), dizem que incentivar a inovação é um elemento chave para a incorporação dos ODS, no Complexo Econômico-Industrial da Saúde, para reduzir a iniquidade de acesso da população à saúde.
O evento também vai lançar a 4a Conferência de Saúde Bucal e Ação Climática que será realizada durante a COP30, em Belém do Para, no Brasil em 2025. Os temas envolvem desde a necessária preparação para a COP 30, o fortalecimento das ações para saúde bucal e planetária com foco especial em inovação tecnológica e social a estratégias de alcance para maximizar o engajamento popular e não deixar ninguém pra trás. Claudio Fernandes coordenador da agência de inovação da Universidade Federal Fluminense (UFF) reafirma: “A UFF está comprometida em facilitar o desenvolvimento de soluções sustentáveis para a descarbonização da economia, também no setor saúde”.
As atividades foram encerradas com a iluminação simbólica do icônico monumento ao Cristo Redentor para marcar a urgência de aumentar a conscientização sobre sustentabilidade no setor de saúde e destacar os determinantes sociais e ambientais da saúde.
Delivering health and education for people, planet, peace and prosperity
The NGO Zero Water Day Partnership, the University of Pennsylvania and the Fluminense Federal University will hold a series of online events alongside the COP 29 Climate Conference in Baku, Azerbaijan, on November 18, 2024.
Organized under the title “Promoting health and education for people, planet, peace and prosperity”, the focus of the events is on EDUCATION as the guiding thread that articulates the stages of the program. The objective is to revisit the status of education through the 17 SDGs, with an emphasis on SDGs 3 and 4.
The program aims to promote global citizenship education in sustainable development in schools, demonstrating that education and professional training should foster critical thinking centered on the planet that promotes health equity. Julian Fisher, president of the Zero Water Day Partnership, highlights that “Brazil is leading a call for education for sustainable development and global citizenship with actions collected in 5 areas of critical importance for humanity and the planet: people, planet, prosperity, peace and partnership.”
Climate change, pollution and biodiversity loss will be discussed by global experts, as well as their impacts on the oral health sector. Guided by the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the WHO Global Oral Health Action Plan 2023-2030, the conference emphasizes a transdisciplinary approach to dental education and practice.
Paulo Henrique Fraccaro (Superintendent) and Regiane Marton (Director and Head of the Dentistry Sector) at ABIMO (Brazilian Association of the Medical Devices Industry), say that encouraging innovation is a key element for the incorporation of the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) into the Health Economic-Industrial Complex, to reduce inequality in the population's access to health.
The event will also launch the 4th Oral Health and Climate Action Conference to be held during COP30 in Belém do Para, Brazil in 2025. The topics range from the necessarypreparation for COP 30 strengthening actions for oral and planetary health with a special focus on technological and social innovation and outreach strategies to maximize popular engagement and leave no one behind. Claudio Fernandes, coordinator of the UFF innovation agency, reaffirms “UFF is committed to facilitating the development of sustainable solutions for the decarbonization of the economy, also in the health sector.
The activities will conclude with the symbolic lighting of the iconic Christ the Redeemer monument to mark the urgency of raising awareness about sustainability in the healthcare sector and highlighting the social and environmental determinants of health.
